Pet hair blocks a standard purifier's filter within weeks. This one takes air from both sides through a pre-filter first, so the hair is caught before it reaches the HEPA element — which is what keeps the HEPA working.
The activated carbon stage is the part that deals with smell rather than particles, and the PM2.5 display tells you whether it is actually doing anything.

Styling notes
Put it where the animal sleeps rather than in the middle of the room — that is where hair and dander concentrate. Vacuum the pre-filter monthly with a pet in the house; it is designed to be cleaned, unlike the HEPA which is replaced. Sleep mode is quiet enough for a bedroom, and auto mode is worth trusting once the PM2.5 reading settles.
