Stick them to the inside of a door rather than the back wall — air moves when the door opens, and that's what carries the scent. One per shoe cabinet shelf is plenty; more just competes with itself. In a wardrobe, place them high rather than at floor level, since scent falls. Keep them away from folded linen you want to smell of nothing at all.
