Flat rather than bolstered, which is what you need for a crate or the back of a van — a bed with raised sides wastes most of the floor space it sits on.
At 125 x 85 cm it takes a giant breed sprawled out, or two dogs that sleep together, and the dark coffee colour hides far more than a pale mat will.
Flat mats suit dogs that sprawl; a curler is better served by a donut bed. In a crate, measure the base rather than the outside, since crates lose a few centimetres to the frame. In a car it works as a liner over the boot floor and comes out for washing, which is worth more than any fitted boot mat.
